Dr.
Mattiuzzi is a 1982 graduate of the California School of Professional
Psychology, Berkeley campus. Prior to receiving his Doctorate, he
trained for three years as a psychological assistant and interned for
three years in community mental health and psychiatric clinics.
In 1983, he took a position as a staff psychologist with the California
Youth Authority and continued working there until 1988. He has been
practicing independently since 1986. For the past twenty years, his practice has
been devoted almost entirely to criminal forensic psychology. He is an
expert in trial competency, insanity, and sentencing
issues. He has served as a consultant to the
California Department of Mental Health, conducting pre-parole
evaluations of mentally disordered offenders. He has also worked for
the Department of Corrections as a Hearing Officer
in involuntary medication proceedings.
He works regularly on Court appointment and on referral from attorneys.
He has qualified as an
expert and testified throughout California.
For the California
Board of Psychology, he consulted on the development of the
Law and Jurisprudence examination.
Dr.
Mattiuzzi often mentors young professionals entering the practice of
psychology, and during one four year period, he supervised
post-doctoral interns as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry
at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.
He is a former president of the Sacramento Valley Psychological
Associatioin (SVPA) and a former president of the SVPA Forensic
Division. Dr.
Mattiuzzi created the California Psychology Network website
(calpsy.net), which is soon to become the Psychology Resource
Information System (psyris.com). He is also the curator of
The
Sigmund Freud Toy Museum.
