Dr. Mattiuzzi is a 1982 graduate of the California School of Professional Psychology, Berkeley campus. Prior to receiving his Doctorate, he trained for three years as a psychological assistant and interned for three years in community mental health and psychiatric clinics.  In 1983, he took a position as a staff psychologist with the California Youth Authority and continued working there until 1988. He has been practicing independently since 1986.

For the past twenty years, his practice has been devoted almost entirely to criminal forensic psychology. He is an expert in trial competency, insanity, and sentencing issues.   He has served as a consultant to the California Department of Mental Health, conducting pre-parole evaluations of mentally disordered offenders. He has also worked for the Department of Corrections as a Hearing Officer in involuntary medication proceedings.

He works regularly on Court appointment and on referral from attorneys.
He has qualified as an expert and testified throughout California.   For the California Board of Psychology, he  consulted on the development of the Law and Jurisprudence examination.

Dr. Mattiuzzi often mentors young professionals entering the practice of psychology, and during one four year period, he supervised post-doctoral interns as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine.

He is a former president of the Sacramento Valley Psychological Associatioin (SVPA) and a former president of the SVPA Forensic Division.

Dr. Mattiuzzi created the California Psychology Network website (calpsy.net),  which is soon to become the Psychology Resource Information System (psyris.com).  He is also the curator of The Sigmund Freud Toy Museum.
